Dr. Jack L. Guccione is the Medical Director for the
Dermatology, Skin Cancer & Laser Center in Northern
California. Dr. Guccione's main emphasis is in a preventive
medicine approach to skin conditions. Dr. Guccione graduated
Magna Cum Laude from Loma Linda University, School of
Public Health and Preventive Medicine. He then went on
to study Internal Medicine at the University of California,
Davis, where, in 1990, he was selected as "Physician
of the Year." He then undertook his dermatology
training at Texas Tech University, Health Sciences
Center, specializing in MOHS' micrographic surgery.
Dr. Guccione treats a variety of skin disorders including
certain kinds of skin cancer. He is a specialist in
the use of MOHS' micrographic surgery, a very precise
technique for treating facial
tumors. This procedure involves excising the tumors and,
subsequently, "mapping" the
removed tissue to track the progress of the surgery;
the aim is to remove only the cancerous tissue and leave
all other healthy skin intact. While the procedure can
be time consuming, it has a very high success rate.
Ultimately, Dr. Guccione's goal is to prevent skin cancer
from developing, which is why he takes the time in performing
complete and thorough skin exams. Educating children
and their parents about the need for sun safety is an
important aspect of this prevention program. Once a skin
cancer does develop, Dr. Guccione applies the most advanced
techniques to remove these tumors.
Dr. Guccione is also an expert in laser surgery. He
uses a variety of advanced lasers to treat a number of
common skin disorders such as pigmented lesions and facial
veins, as well as warts, port wine stains, and tattoos.
Lasers offer many advantages over traditional surgery.
They are more precise, less destructive, and frequently
result in faster healing of the skin than other techniques.
Dr. Guccione also has extensive experience in cosmetic
dermatology. He utilizes state-of-the-art procedures
to prevent and treat facial wrinkles and other cutaneous
disorders relating to aging skin. These include chemical
peels, laser surgery, botox injections, microdermabrasion,
and other surgical techniques.
Dr. Guccione is a member of the American Medical Association,
American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, Humboldt-Del
Norte Medical Society, and is on the staff at Redwood
Memorial Hospital. He is board certified in Dermatology
and is a Fellow of the American Society for MOHS' micrographic
surgery.
