What is liquid nitrogen?
Liquid nitrogen, also known as LN2, is frequently used in our clinic to treat precancerous and cancerous skin lesions. Nitrogen is the greatest component of the natural air that we breathe. This nitrogen is compressed into a liquid whose temperature is 196§ C (or 321§) F.
When a skin lesion is frozen with liquid nitrogen, the skin is superficially damaged. It is the thawing and subsequent healing process that removes the abnormal skin growth. President Clinton has had frequent treatment for his actinic keratoses with liquid nitrogen therapy.
